Dust off Your Tactical Shotgun and Give This a Try!
by Bill Mooney
Today, I am focusing on the shotgun portion of the competition. Some 3 Gun experts say most time is lost during the competition with the shotgun. Competitors need to become efficient in loading and reloading the gun to save critical time.
Most tactical shotguns have extended tubes that can hold several shot shells. Most manufacturers are now creating models that will not only be great tactical and self defense shotguns, but can be used in competition. Most 3 Gun shooters choose a 21" or 24" barrel. With these models you should get an 8+1 capacity tube up to a 9+1 capacity. There are some models that will handle 10+1 and 11+1 shells.
Picking the correct shotgun for 3 Gun is half the battle. The other half is learning how to load and reload the shotgun quickly and efficiently. Luckily we were able to film Larry Houck with 3 Gun Team FNH USA. Larry is perfecting a new technique he developed to load 4 shells at a time. He can load 8 shells in 3 seconds. More on that video later.
