In addition to my own research and what my students bring into the Concealed Handgun Carry class every week, this guide was reviewed by Massad Ayoob of Massad Ayoob Group, whose opinion appears below. [Keep only if true — Chris: I handled the product(s) on this page myself. Details are in the test record at the end.] The method line at the end of the article says exactly how this guide was built.

The Stealth EGS28 Special Edition FLAG is a 28-long-gun, 375-pound electronic-lock safe with a stated 30-minute fire protection claim, a built-in power outlet kit and a themed door design. It targets owners who have moved past slim cabinets and want a heavy, bolt-down safe with a UL-listed lock, a molle door panel and some fire resistance, without jumping to premium-brand pricing. It is probably not for you if you want a lightweight safe you can move yourself, a minimal interior without extras, or independent proof of the fire rating beyond the seller’s description.

FYI, prices and ratings are accurate as of time of writing.

ACCESS AND LOCK:

The EGS28 uses an electronic combination lock with a key included in the box. The seller describes it as a UL-listed electronic lock, model NL-UR2020, assembled in the USA and protected by a drill-resistant steel hardplate and a relocker. A relocker is a secondary mechanism intended to keep the bolts thrown if the lock is attacked, and a hardplate shields the lock from drilling. Those are good features to see on an electronic safe, though they are the seller’s description and we could not confirm them independently.

The listing does not state code length, number of user codes, lockout behavior or how the backup key is used. Those are questions for the manual. Set a private code on day one, avoid obvious numbers, and store the backup key in a different place from the safe. If you live with others who need access, agree on who knows the code and practice opening it before you rely on it.

BUILD AND SECURITY FEATURES:

The listing highlights 14-gauge steel, eight solid steel locking bolts that are 1 inch in diameter, and four bolt-down holes. Eight bolts across a 28-inch-wide door is a more serious layout than the three-bolt designs on small cabinets, and a 375-pound body is already hard to carry away. It is still worth bolting down, because a thief with a dolly and a few minutes can move a heavy safe and a tip-over around children is a real hazard.

The fire claim is 30 minutes of protection with a heat-expandable intumescent seal around the door, which the seller says expands seven times when heated. Thirty minutes is a modest rating, not a long one, and it is the seller’s statement. Our best fireproof gun safes guide explains how to read fire claims and why duration, temperature and test method all matter. Treat this as helpful protection against a short, small fire, not as a guarantee for irreplaceable documents or media.

The listing says it is a California DOJ approved firearm safety device. That label matters mainly to buyers in states with certification requirements, so confirm it on the listing and check what your state asks for.

INTERIOR AND FIT:

The exterior is 20 inches deep, 28 inches wide and 59 inches tall. The seller says it holds 28 long guns using an interior gun rack, with adjustable interior shelving and a customizable molle door panel organizer that comes with all accessories. As with any gun-count label, treat 28 as a ceiling. Scoped rifles, thick stocks and wide magazines cut that number sharply, so a realistic plan is to expect fewer rifles and use the door panel for accessories, pistols and magazines.

The pre-installed power outlet kit, with three outlets and two USB slots, is a handy extra for a dehumidifier, a rechargeable light or a charger. The listing does not explain how the kit is powered or how the cord exits the safe, so read the manual on that point before you plan your placement. Interior dimensions are also missing, so measure your longest rifle, including optics, against whatever the manual or seller can confirm.

If you are comparing layouts across models, our best rifle safes guide covers how rack spacing affects real capacity.

MOUNTING AND PLACEMENT:

The spec sheet says freestanding and tabletop, which sounds odd for a 375-pound safe, while the seller bullets specify four bolt-down holes. Trust the bullets and the weight: this is a floor-standing safe that should be anchored, and the box includes a bolt and a key, so check whether the anchor hardware suits your floor. Concrete and wood subfloor need different fasteners.

Plan the route in as carefully as the spot itself. A 59-inch-tall, 375-pound safe needs a clear path, doorways wide enough and a floor that can carry it. Many owners of safes this size hire help or use a stair-climbing dolly. Put it against a wall or in a corner to make prying harder, away from damp areas, and leave enough clearance for the door to swing.

POWER AND BATTERIES:

The electronic lock runs on batteries, though the listing does not name the type or the expected life. Check the manual for the battery compartment location and what happens if the batteries die, since you want to know the backup route before it matters. Change them on a schedule, keep spares and test the lock with the door open afterwards. The separate outlet kit is a convenience feature for items inside the safe and is not described as part of lock power.

WHAT TO CHECK BEFORE YOU BUY:

Where it earns its keep: The Stealth EGS28 is a 28-gun safe with a fire claim and an outlet kit, placing it in the full-size category where capacity and fire rating matter more than quick access.

Where it falls short: Little independent field experience exists for this model yet. Confirm how delivery and positioning are handled for a safe this heavy, how the paint and door finish arrive, how the keypad and lock perform, whether the outlet kit works as described, and how the seller handles warranty claims, since returns are difficult.

Who it’s for: A large collection that needs one fire-rated cabinet. Seller responsiveness matters as much as the steel here.

PROS & CONS:

Pros:

  • 28-gun class capacity with adjustable shelving and a rack
  • Eight 1-inch bolts and 14-gauge steel described
  • UL-listed lock with relocker and hardplate per the seller
  • Thirty-minute fire claim with intumescent seal
  • Built-in power outlet kit and molle door organizer

Cons:

  • Thirty minutes is a modest fire claim and not independently shown
  • 375 pounds makes delivery and placement a project
  • Interior dimensions and battery details are not listed
  • Priced over $1,000

How it compares

The closest alternative in our set is the Kodiak KBX5629 42-Gun Safe. It is a little bigger at 22 by 29 by 56 inches and 390 pounds, and the listing describes a UL-listed electronic lock, 14-gauge steel, a 30-minute fire claim at up to 1400 degrees, and room for up to 42 long guns. Choose the Kodiak if you want more capacity and a wider base, and the Stealth if you prefer the outlet kit, molle door panel and the Special Edition styling.

Both are in the same price tier and make similar fire claims, so the decision comes down to interior layout, warranty terms and delivery. For a broader comparison, our best fireproof gun safes and best rifle safes pages are good starting points.

Price and deals

At the time of writing the Stealth EGS28 sat in the over $1,000 range. Safe pricing moves with sales and shipping, so $1,499.99 on Amazon (as of Oct 31, 2026, 12:05 AM EDT – details) before you decide, and visit our Stealth EGS28 promo code page for ways to pay less. You can also see every model on the gun safe reviews A to Z list.

The listing mentions a lifetime burglary and fire warranty and a 2-year parts and labor warranty on the lock and components. Treat those as the seller’s summary and read the full terms, including exclusions and how a claim works, before you buy.

Final verdict

The Stealth EGS28 is a solid candidate for a big long gun collection if you can handle a heavy delivery and want an electronic lock, eight bolts, a short fire claim and a built-in outlet kit. The main caution is verification: the fire rating, lock listing and warranty are the seller’s statements, so confirm them in the manual and warranty paperwork.

Anchor the safe, keep the code private, store the backup key elsewhere and remember that child-access-prevention and storage laws vary by state, so check yours.

Stealth EGS28 Gun Safe FAQ

How many guns does the Stealth EGS28 hold?

The listing says 28 long guns with an interior gun rack and adjustable shelving. That is a ceiling, since scopes, thick stocks and wide magazines reduce usable space. Interior dimensions are not listed, so measure your longest rifle with optics attached.

What fire protection does the EGS28 claim?

The seller states 30 minutes of fire protection and a heat-expandable intumescent door seal that expands 7 times when heated. It is the seller’s claim, so read the manual and keep irreplaceable documents backed up elsewhere.

How is the Stealth EGS28 mounted?

The seller lists four bolt-down holes, while the spec sheet says freestanding. At 375 pounds, anchoring is still wise for theft resistance and tip-over safety. The box includes a bolt and key, so check whether the hardware suits your floor.

What if the electronic lock batteries die?

A key is included as backup. Battery type and life are not listed, so check the manual for the compartment and recommended replacement schedule, and store the key apart from the safe.

Does the safe have a built-in outlet?

Yes, the listing mentions a pre-installed power outlet kit with 3 outlets and 2 USB slots for plugging in items inside. How it is powered and where the cord exits are not described, so confirm that in the manual.
