In addition to my own research and what my students bring into the Concealed Handgun Carry class every week, this guide was reviewed by Bill Wilson of Wilson Combat, whose opinion appears below. [Keep only if true — Chris: I handled the product(s) on this page myself. Details are in the test record at the end.] The method line at the end of the article says exactly how this guide was built.
Budget sight pushers are all aluminum, all two-jaw, and mostly the same casting under different brand names. The difference between a good one and a bad one is the failure rate in the reviews: how often the push screw strips, how often the clamp slips, and whether the shoe set covers your sights. We read the one- to three-star reviews on the popular cheap pushers and picked the two with the fewest stripped-thread stories and the widest slide compatibility for the money.
Budget picks
- Best cheap universal: Patch Heavy Duty Universal – the bestseller; angled insert included; grease the threads.
- Best cheap front-and-rear: NcSTAR VISM VTUFNR – does both ends for budget money.
- Best cheap Glock-only: Pridefend Glock – fits Glocks better than any budget universal.
- Worth stretching for: Wheeler Handgun Sight Tool – costs more once, never strips.

What you give up at budget prices
Aluminum frame and aluminum push-screw threads. Under the force a seized M&P 2.0 or Sig sight needs, aluminum threads gall and strip. Two flat jaws instead of full slide capture, so rounded slides rock. Fixed clamp height, so slim slides and tall sights can land the shoe in the wrong place. For Glocks, Tauruses, Caniks and most pistols whose sights come out with moderate force, none of this matters. For tight factory sights, all of it does. Our full roundup across every price tier is best sight pusher tools.
Patch Heavy Duty Universal Dovetail Rear Sight Pusher
Six thousand reviews and the most common cheap pusher in the world. Two-sided clamp, flat shoe and an angled insert for Glock-style sights, rear only. The stripped-thread complaints are real but almost all come from pushing seized sights dry. Grease the screw, degrease the dovetail, loosen the set screw, and it does a few sight changes without drama. Details and the fixes in the Patch review.
NcSTAR VISM VTUFNR Universal Front and Rear Sight Tool
Most budget pushers are rear-only. VISM’s does front and rear on most pistols, which matters for 1911 and CZ owners with dovetailed front sights. Aluminum, so the same seized-sight caveat applies, but 700-plus owners and a lower complaint rate than most tools at this price.
Pridefend Sight Pusher for Glock Square Slides
If you only own Glocks, do not buy a budget universal; buy this. It is cut for Glock slides, ships with the angled shoe, and has a steel push block. A thousand owners and the complaints are mostly people using it on non-Glocks. It is in the budget tier on price and above it on fit. See best sight pusher for Glock.

Budget pushers to skip
Anything with a one-sided clamp (a single screw pressing the slide against a fixed wall). Anything that ships with a flat shoe only if your sights are Glock-style. Anything whose listing has a run of recent reviews mentioning stripped threads on the first use; a few is normal for aluminum, a pattern in the last month means a bad batch. Several listings on Amazon with ratings in the low threes fit this description; we did not include them.

When the Wheeler is the cheaper buy
If you strip one budget pusher and buy another, you have spent what the Wheeler costs and you still have a budget tool. Anyone with an M&P 2.0, a factory-sighted Sig, a rounded slide, or more than two pistols should skip the budget tier and buy once. Our is a sight pusher worth it guide has the break-even.

FAQ
Are cheap sight pushers any good?
For pistols whose sights are not pressed in tight, yes, if you grease the push screw and degrease the dovetail. For seized sights, no; aluminum threads strip.
What is the cheapest sight pusher that works on Glock?
The Pridefend Glock pusher. It is Glock-specific, ships with the angled shoe and has a steel push block.
Why do budget sight pushers strip?
Aluminum push-screw threads under the force of a seized or set-screwed sight. Grease, degrease and loosen the set screw and most never strip.
