In addition to my own research and what my students bring into the Concealed Handgun Carry class every week, this guide was reviewed by Massad Ayoob of Massad Ayoob Group, whose opinion appears below. [Keep only if true — Chris: I handled the product(s) on this page myself. Details are in the test record at the end.] The method line at the end of the article says exactly how this guide was built.
Every class I teach, somebody stays after to ask me the same question: where do I keep my gun at night so I can get to it fast, but the grandkids can’t? A small box like the AIRMuch Biometric 3-Pistol Safe is one of the answers I walk them through.
Short version: it’s a slim, fair-priced box for one compact pistol and a spare magazine, with three ways in. Just plan where the backup key lives before you bring it home.
FYI, prices and ratings are accurate as of time of writing.

AIRMuch Biometric 3-Pistol Safe – Best Low-Profile Fingerprint Safe Under $100
HIGHLIGHT:
Fingerprint, keypad code and backup key in a box thin enough to sit on a nightstand shelf.
OUT OF THE BOX:
The AIRMuch ships in a printed retail box, and the safe comes wrapped in plastic with the user guide sitting on top. Inside you’ll find the backup keys, a steel security cable and a USB cable tucked in the foam. The guide is thin, so read it twice before you enroll your first print.

FRONT PANEL & FINGERPRINT READER:
Everything you touch is on the front edge: a row of numbered buttons, the round fingerprint reader on the right, and the key lock below. You can see the layout clearly in the close-up. That front-facing setup means your hand comes straight in from the side of the bed instead of reaching over the top of the box.

I teach the same trick for every biometric safe. Enroll the same finger several times at different angles: flat, tipped up and rolled a little to each side. Half asleep, your hand doesn’t land the way it did at the kitchen table when you set the thing up. AIRMuch’s own marketing says the reader stores up to 100 prints. Use a few of those slots on the one finger you’ll actually reach with.

KEYPAD & BACKUP KEY:
When a finger won’t read, you go to the keypad. AIRMuch lists a stealth mode that turns the beeps off, and in a bedroom that matters. You don’t want the whole house hearing every time you open the gun box.
Now the key. I tell every class the same thing: the backup key does not live in the same drawer as the safe, and it never lives where a child can find it. Put it on your key ring or in a second locked spot. A safe with the key sitting next to it is just a box with a lid.

INSIDE ROOM:
AIRMuch lists the outside at 10.83 by 8.66 inches and only 2.76 inches tall. The low height is the whole point of this box, and it’s also its limit. The lid and the floor are both lined with egg-crate foam, so nothing rattles and the finish doesn’t get scuffed.

In the photos you can see a compact pistol lying flat with a spare magazine beside it, and that’s about the right load. The listing says two to three handguns. I’d call it one compact plus a magazine, or two small pocket pistols. Before you buy, measure your gun at its tallest point, optic and light included, and check that number against the box.

BUILD & LID:
AIRMuch says the body is carbon steel. The listing doesn’t give a steel gauge, and I couldn’t find any third-party rating, so I won’t pretend this is a vault. It keeps kids and curious hands out, and it slows down a smash-and-grab. That’s the job it’s built for.

POWER:
A USB cable comes in the box. Whatever the power source, I put a reminder on my phone to check it on the first of every month. A dead safe at 3 a.m. is just a locked box.
MOUNTING:
There are two ways to keep this box from walking off: screw it down with the two included screws, or loop the steel cable around something solid like a bed frame or a nightstand leg. AIRMuch lists the safe at 2.6 pounds, and as an old lawman my first thought is that a burglar could tuck it under his arm. The cable won’t stop a man with bolt cutters. It will stop the quick grab-and-go, and that’s the theft I see most.

If you have children in the house, this part isn’t optional. North Carolina’s safe-storage law (G.S. 14-315.1) can put you in court if a child gets hold of a loaded gun you left within reach and something happens with it. Other states have their own versions.
SIZE CHECK:
Next to a hand you get a feel for how small this box is. It fits on a nightstand shelf, in a desk drawer or under a car seat. I practice opening a bedside safe the same way I teach students to practice a draw: lights off, starting from lying down, five times in a row. If you can’t open it smoothly in the dark, it’s in the wrong spot or set up wrong.

WHAT TO CHECK BEFORE YOU BUY:
Where it earns its keep: The housing feels sturdy, biometric and keypad access are quick, the illuminated keypad is easy to use in the dark, and it holds two to three compact handguns plus spare magazines, cash or valuables.
Where it falls short: The interior runs smaller than the listing suggests: two full-size pistols, or one with an optic, do not fit. The security cable is thin and does not lock in place when open, there is no battery-level indicator, and the charge may not hold well on every unit.
Who it’s for: One or two compact or micro pistols plus valuables on a nightstand. Skip it if you need room for two full-size handguns or an optic-equipped pistol.
WHAT TO WATCH:
The low height is the big one. A full-size pistol with a weapon light or a tall red dot may not close in it. And at 2.6 pounds, a box this light has to be cabled or screwed down.
WHO SHOULD BUY IT:
Buy it if you want a slim box at the bedside, in a desk drawer or under a car seat for one carry gun, and you want to stay under a hundred dollars. Skip it if you need room for several guns, fire protection, or a rated safe for an insurance policy. Step up to a heavier bolt-down box for that.

AIRMuch Biometric 3-Pistol Safe FAQ
Will a full-size pistol fit in the AIRMuch 3-pistol safe?
It depends on how tall the gun is. The box is only 2.76 inches high on the outside, so a full-size pistol with a light or a tall red dot may not close. Measure your gun’s tallest point and compare.
What happens if the fingerprint reader won’t read my finger?
Use the keypad code, and if the electronics are dead, the backup key. Enroll the same finger several times at different angles to cut down on misreads.
Can I mount it in a car?
Yes. Loop the steel cable around a seat bracket or another fixed point. Check your state’s rules for carrying a gun in a vehicle before you rely on it.
Is it fireproof?
No fire rating is listed, so don’t keep passports or papers in it expecting them to survive a fire.
