In addition to my own research and what my students bring into the Concealed Handgun Carry class every week, this guide was reviewed by Bill Wilson of Wilson Combat, whose opinion appears below. [Keep only if true — Chris: I handled the product(s) on this page myself. Details are in the test record at the end.] The method line at the end of the article says exactly how this guide was built.

Good news for Taurus owners: your pistol is one of the easiest to change sights on. Taurus G2C, G3 and G3C rear sights sit in a standard dovetail at moderate tension, without the press-fit force Smith & Wesson and Sig use, so the budget aluminum pushers that strip on an M&P work fine here. The exceptions are the slim GX4 slide, which needs a clamp that centers on it, and the occasional factory sight with thread locker in the dovetail.

Taurus picks

  • Best value for G2C / G3: Patch Heavy Duty Universal – flat shoe, fits the flat-sided Taurus slide, moderate-force sights do not strip it.
  • Budget front and rear: NcSTAR VISM VTUFNR – G3 front sights are dovetailed.
  • For the GX4 slim slide: Pridefend Universal with adjustable base, or the Wheeler.

G2C, G3, G3C

Flat-sided slides, flat-backed rear sights, standard dovetail. Use the flat shoe, clamp behind the serrations, push left to right (viewed from the rear) to remove. Most come out with modest force. Some G3 rear sights have a set screw; check the top of the sight and loosen it first. The procedure is in how to use a sight pusher. Factory Taurus front sights on the G3 are dovetailed and come out with a front-adapter tool; G2C fronts are often pinned or screw-retained, so check before pushing.

GX4

The GX4 slide is slim, about the width of a Glock 43X. Fixed two-jaw pushers sized for double-stack slides sit off-center and land the shoe on the slide. An adjustable-base tool or a full-capture clamp centers on it. The GX4’s rear sight is set-screwed; loosen it before pushing.

The Taurus quirk: thread locker in the dovetail

Some Taurus factory sights arrive with thread locker in the dovetail rather than, or in addition to, a set screw. If the sight will not move at moderate force, do not crank a budget pusher; warm the slide with a hair dryer for a minute, add penetrating oil, wait, then push. The full sequence is in rear sight stuck and will not move.

Patch Heavy Duty Universal

Our budget pick, and on a Taurus it is enough tool. Grease the push screw, degrease the dovetail, and it will do the G2C and G3 without the stripped-thread problems M&P owners report.

NcSTAR VISM VTUFNR

Adds the front adapter for the G3’s dovetailed front sight. Aluminum, fine for Taurus-tension sights.

Pridefend Universal with adjustable base

For the GX4. Dial the clamp to the slim slide so the shoe meets the sight base. Also fits the G3 and non-Taurus pistols; angled and flat shoes included.

FAQ

Can I change Taurus G2C sights at home?

Yes. The rear is a standard dovetail at moderate tension; a budget pusher handles it. Check whether your front sight is pinned before trying to push it.

Will a Glock sight pusher work on a Taurus G3?

Glock-only tools are cut for the Glock slide and angled sight; the G3 is flat-backed. Use a universal with a flat shoe.
