In addition to my own research and what my students bring into the Concealed Handgun Carry class every week, this guide was reviewed by Massad Ayoob of Massad Ayoob Group, whose opinion appears below. [Keep only if true — Chris: I handled the product(s) on this page myself. Details are in the test record at the end.] The method line at the end of the article says exactly how this guide was built.

When a student tells me the pistol lives in the nightstand drawer, I ask one question back: does that drawer lock? Most of the time it doesn’t, and the same drawer holds the TV remote, the reading glasses and whatever the grandkids went digging for last Sunday.

The Lvifur Nightstand Gun Safe goes about it another way. It’s a full-size nightstand with a key-locked compartment hidden under a sliding top, plus three drawers, a lit shelf and phone charging.

My verdict: it’s good concealment furniture that keeps a handgun away from kids and company, as long as you buy it knowing it’s a locked nightstand and not a rated safe.

FYI, prices and ratings are accurate as of time of writing.

Lvifur Nightstand Gun Safe – Best Concealment Nightstand With A Hidden Gun Drawer

HIGHLIGHT:

A key-locked hidden compartment built into the furniture itself, under a tabletop that slides to the side.

WHAT IT IS:

Most things sold as a nightstand gun safe are a small steel box you set inside a drawer. The Lvifur turns that around. Lvifur lists it as a farmhouse nightstand about 17 inches wide, 16 inches deep and 24 to 25 inches tall, with the gun storage built into the piece instead of added on.

From the outside it reads as bedroom furniture and nothing else: a black finish, an open shelf under the top and three drawers below. Lvifur describes X-pattern side panels and gold ring pulls. In the photos you can see a pair of them side by side, which is how a lot of folks buy nightstands anyway.

As an old lawman, here’s why I like concealment. A burglar working against the clock goes for the dresser drawers and the closet shelf. A piece of furniture that doesn’t tell him what’s in it buys you time. It doesn’t buy you strength. Keep those two ideas apart and you’ll judge this thing fairly.

THE HIDDEN COMPARTMENT:

Here’s how Lvifur says it works. Unlock the compartment with the included key, push the thick tabletop to the side, and the whole top panel glides over to show the storage underneath. Lay your handgun, a spare magazine and a flashlight inside, slide the top back and lock it. Close it up and nothing gives it away.

Lvifur says the compartment runs most of the 17-inch width, and its own product photos show two full-size pistols lying flat side by side. One pistol, a spare magazine and a small light is a sensible load. The close-up shows a grid-pattern foam insert with cutouts sitting in the compartment. The listing doesn’t mention foam, so don’t count on finding it in your box.

The compartment sits at standing height right beside the bed, so you aren’t bending down or digging through a drawer in the dark. I’d still practice it the way I teach students to practice a draw: lights off, starting from lying down, five times in a row. If the top doesn’t slide smooth for you half asleep, fix the setup before you trust it.

KEY LOCK:

This is the part to understand before you buy. The Lvifur is not biometric. There’s no fingerprint reader and no keypad, just a traditional key lock with keys included.

A key works, but it’s slow in the dark, and that key has to live somewhere. I tell every class the same thing: the key does not go in the drawer below, on top of the nightstand, or anywhere a child can find it. Keep it on your key ring or on your person. A locked compartment with the key lying beside it is just a shelf with a lid.

If you want fingerprint access, there are two ways to get it. Buy a dedicated biometric pistol box instead, or set a compact biometric box inside the Lvifur’s hidden compartment or one of its drawers. I like the second idea. You get a fast way to the gun, and the furniture still hides the box.

If you have children in the house, this part isn’t optional. North Carolina’s safe-storage law (G.S. 14-315.1) can put you in court if a child gets hold of a loaded gun you left within reach and something happens with it. Other states have their own versions.

DRAWERS & STORAGE:

Below the shelf sit three large drawers that Lvifur says run on metal guide rails, so they slide smooth and quiet. That’s room for chargers, books, glasses, medication and the rest of the bedside clutter. No lockbox gives you that.

One caution. Lvifur only lists a lock on the top compartment, so treat the drawers as regular drawers. The gun, the spare magazine and the key stay out of them unless they’re inside a locked box of their own.

LED SHELF LIGHT:

The open cubby under the top has an LED strip. Lvifur lists three colors, white, warm and blue, dimmable from about 20 to 100 percent. In the photos you can see the shelf glowing blue beside a bed, glowing blue in a dark room with the remotes on it, and lit white in another shot.

A low light at the bedside helps you see what your hands are doing. I’d set it on warm and dim. If something wakes you at night, you want to see the nightstand, not light yourself up for whoever is in the hallway.

MOTION SENSOR & CHARGING:

Lvifur says a human body motion sensor turns the light on when you walk up to the nightstand and off after you leave, so it works as a night light without a switch. You can also pick the color and brightness by hand. The photos show blue light running around the edge of the top as well as the shelf.

A smart module on the side holds one USB-A port and one USB-C port, so a phone and a watch can charge right there without a power strip on the floor. Keep that phone by the bed. If something goes bump at night, the first thing I want a student to do is call 911, and that’s hard to do when the phone is charging in the kitchen.

BUILD & ASSEMBLY:

Lvifur lists the frame as FSC-certified engineered wood with a glossy black finish. That’s not solid hardwood, and it’s not steel. It keeps kids and guests out. It won’t stop a grown man with a pry bar and a few minutes, and nobody should sell it to you as if it would.

It ships flat-packed with hardware and instructions, so plan on an evening of assembly. In the photos you can see one standing finished on the carpet with a screwdriver still on the floor. Take your time and keep everything square. A sliding top that binds is a top you won’t open fast.

AT THE BEDSIDE:

At 24 to 25 inches tall, the top sits close to mattress height on a lot of beds. In the photos you can see it beside beds in a couple of bedrooms, one with a lamp and a clock on top.

Think about that lamp. If the whole top slides over to get at the compartment, whatever sits on it either rides along or gets in the way. I’d keep the top clear, or keep only light things up there. And don’t push the nightstand tight against a wall on the side the top slides toward.

WHAT TO CHECK BEFORE YOU BUY:

Where it earns its keep: The Lvifur Nightstand Gun Safe has a good-looking, sturdy farmhouse design, assembles easily with all needed tools included, and adds LED lighting, USB and USB-C charging, and a hidden lockable drawer.

Where it falls short: The hidden drawer sometimes does not slide smoothly or work as listed, actual dimensions can differ noticeably from the listing, and some units arrive with broken or misaligned drawer brackets.

Who it’s for: A stylish, feature-rich nightstand with a bonus lockable drawer. It is furniture with a lock, not gun-safe-level security, and the listed dimensions should be verified.

WHAT TO WATCH:

Three things. It’s key-only, so it’s slow in the dark unless you add a biometric box inside. It’s engineered wood, so it’s a concealment piece and not a burglary or fire safe. And it needs assembly. The listing also doesn’t say how the light and charging ports get their power, so check the product page before you pick a spot.

WHO SHOULD BUY IT:

Buy it if you need a nightstand anyway and want bedside gun storage that doesn’t look like gun storage, especially in a small bedroom or apartment where a nightstand and a separate safe won’t both fit. The locked top also works for jewelry, cash, passports or medication. Skip it if you want fingerprint or keypad access with no key to keep up with, or a rated safe for theft or fire. Step up to a steel bolt-down box for that.

Lvifur Nightstand Gun Safe FAQ

Does a full-size handgun fit in the Lvifur hidden gun drawer?

Lvifur says the compartment runs most of the 17-inch width of the nightstand, and its product photos show two full-size pistols lying flat side by side. One pistol, a spare magazine and a small flashlight should fit with room left over.

Is the Lvifur nightstand gun safe biometric?

No. The hidden compartment uses a key lock and comes with keys. There’s no fingerprint reader or keypad. If you want fingerprint access, set a compact biometric pistol box inside the compartment or one of the drawers.

How do you open the hidden compartment?

Unlock it with the key, then slide the tabletop sideways. The whole top panel glides over to show the storage underneath. Slide it back and lock it when you’re done.

Is a nightstand with a lockable gun drawer secure enough?

It keeps a handgun out of sight and out of reach of kids and guests, which is what most folks need at the bedside. It’s furniture with a lock, not a burglary-rated or fire-rated safe, so don’t treat it as one.

Does the LED light stay on all night?

No. Lvifur says the motion sensor turns the light on when you walk up and off after you leave. You can also pick white, warm or blue light and set the brightness by hand.
