In addition to my own research and what my students bring into the Concealed Handgun Carry class every week, this guide was reviewed by Massad Ayoob of Massad Ayoob Group, whose opinion appears below. [Keep only if true — Chris: I handled the product(s) on this page myself. Details are in the test record at the end.] The method line at the end of the article says exactly how this guide was built.
When we get to home storage, I ask the class what’s on their nightstand right now. Phone, charger, wallet, reading glasses, and for more folks than you’d think, a loaded pistol lying out in the open. The TRRKO Auto-Open Charging Safe tries to put all of that in one footprint, with the gun locked in a drawer under the phone charger.
My verdict: it’s a convenience-first bedside safe with a drawer that slides out on its own, three ways in and wireless charging on top. It’s tabletop only and shallow inside, so it suits a slim pistol on a nightstand with an outlet close by.
FYI, prices and ratings are accurate as of time of writing.

TRRKO Auto-Open Charging Safe – Best Auto-Open Nightstand Safe With Wireless Charging
HIGHLIGHT:
A drawer the seller says slides open in 0.3 seconds after a fingerprint or code, with dual wireless charging on the lid.
OUT OF THE BOX:
TRRKO lists the safe, two backup keys, a steel security cable, an AC adapter, a user manual and speed reading cards. In the photos you can see the drawer pulled open with paperwork and a ring of keys inside. Count the keys when you unpack it and decide right then where each one is going to live.

The seller says lost keys can be replaced if you send them the serial number. So write that serial number down and keep it with your house papers, not inside the safe it opens.
AUTO-OPEN DRAWER:
This is the headline. According to TRRKO, you unlock it and the drawer slides out on its own, so there’s no lid to lift and no handle to pull. At a nightstand, where you’re reaching from a sitting or lying position in the dark, one free hand may be all you’ve got. A drawer that comes to you helps.

In the photos you can see the drawer coming out of the front with the keypad lit green above it. Because it slides forward, it needs room. A lamp, a water glass or a wall too close in front will stop it short. Set it where the drawer can run all the way out, then practice the way I teach students to practice a draw: lights off, starting from lying down, five times in a row.
FINGERPRINT READER & KEYPAD:
The controls sit on top, in front of the charging pad. In the photos you can see a square pad in the middle of a row of touch keys, lit green when the safe wakes up. TRRKO describes a capacitive touch keypad that uses the digits 1 to 8. That’s fewer keys than the usual 0 to 9 pad, so give some thought to the code you pick, and don’t make it a birthday.

The listing doesn’t say how many fingerprints it stores, so find that out if more than one adult will use it. Then the same trick I teach for every biometric safe: enroll the same finger several times at different angles, flat, tipped up and rolled a little to each side. Half asleep, your hand won’t land the way it did at the kitchen table when you set it up.
BACKUP KEY & SILENT MODE:
The key is your way in when a finger is wet or the power’s out. The close-up shows the key lock with an oval cover below it. I tell every class the same thing: the backup key does not live in the nightstand beside the safe, and it never lives where a child can find it. Put it on your key ring or in a second locked spot.

TRRKO says silent mode turns off the beeps, and that the touch keypad has no mechanical clicks. In a shared bedroom that’s worth having. You don’t want to wake a spouse, or tell whoever just came in the back door, that you opened the gun safe.
DISPLAY & CHARGING:
In the photos you can see a red time readout across the front, with a green ring and small indicator lights beside it. The seller lists a brightness adjustment, which you’ll want. A bright red glow on the nightstand isn’t everybody’s idea of a good night’s sleep. The listing facts I have don’t describe the display itself, so check the manual for what it shows and how far it dims.

The top carries an oval pad with the TRRKO logo and two charging spots, and the seller lists dual 15W wireless charging with USB output. Phone cases with metal plates, thick wallet cases or magnet rings can slow charging or stop it, and the listing doesn’t publish phone compatibility, so check that against your own phone.

Wireless chargers run a little warm, and a safe is a closed box. Keep the top clear of papers and cloth while something is charging.
INSIDE ROOM:
The seller gives the interior as 10.16 by 8.94 by 2.11 inches, 191.65 cubic inches in all, and says it holds two full-size pistols, three magazines and a wallet. In the photos you can see a pistol lying flat in the open drawer, and another shot of the drawer pulled all the way out, empty.

Do the math with your own gear. A 2.11-inch inside height is shallow. Slim and mid-width handguns lying flat should be fine, but tall optics, thick extended magazines or a bulky holster may not clear. Measure your gun with any light or optic on, and again with the magazine in. The listing doesn’t describe any foam or lining, so think about how you’ll protect your finish. One photo also shows the built-in LED light glowing along the inside of the open drawer, which helps when the room is dark.

POWER:
An AC adapter comes in the box, and the charging pad depends on it, so the cord has to reach an outlet near the bed. What the listing doesn’t spell out is whether the lock runs on batteries when it’s unplugged, how long any backup lasts, or what the fingerprint reader does in a power cut.

Read the manual or message the seller before you count on it during an outage. When yours arrives, before any gun goes in, I’d unplug it with the drawer shut, key in hand, and see what still works. Better to learn that on a Saturday afternoon than at 3 a.m. The two backup keys are there for exactly that situation.
BUILD & MOUNTING:
TRRKO describes welded high-strength alloy steel, anti-pry edges and a four-layer protective coating, and the spec list adds an anti-corrosion coating. None of that comes with a gauge, a rating or a third-party certification, so I’ll judge it as a bedside safe for keeping curious kids and casual hands out, not a burglary-rated product.

TRRKO lists it at 14.2 pounds. That’s heavier than the little lockboxes, but as an old lawman, my first thought is still that a burglar can carry it off under one arm. This is a tabletop safe. The listing mentions no pre-drilled holes and no bolt-down kit, so the 3.2-foot steel cable is your only anchor. Loop it around a bed frame member or a heavy furniture leg. It won’t stop bolt cutters, but it stops the grab-and-go, and that’s the theft I see most.

TRRKO lists the outside at 13.18 inches deep, 10.44 wide and 3.54 tall. That’s a big footprint for a nightstand, so measure the top before you order. Put it where you can reach it from bed without stretching and where a child can’t get at the keys.
If you have children in the house, this part isn’t optional. North Carolina’s safe-storage law (G.S. 14-315.1) can put you in court if a child gets hold of a loaded gun you left within reach and something happens with it. Other states have their own versions.
WHAT TO CHECK BEFORE YOU BUY:
Where it earns its keep: The auto-open drawer is the standout feature. Fingerprint and passcode setup is simple, there is room for two pistols plus spare magazines, operation is quiet, and the built-in wireless phone chargers, backup battery and backup key are useful extras.
Where it falls short: The fingerprint sensor or screen may become unreliable over time on some units, the keypad and sensor are not lit for use in the dark, and the wireless charger does not work with every phone or watch.
Who it’s for: Anyone wanting fast, tech-forward nightstand access with charging built in; not for anyone who needs long-term electronic reliability or a sensor findable in a dark room.
WHAT TO WATCH:
The shallow 2.11-inch inside height is the first thing. After that, it’s tabletop only, with no fire rating, no fingerprint count and no backup-power details listed. The seller describes a five-year warranty and lifetime tech support. Read the actual terms on the listing before you lean on them.
WHO SHOULD BUY IT:
Buy it if you want one spot on the nightstand for your carry gun and your phone, you like the idea of a drawer that opens itself, and you’ve got an outlet close by. At the time of writing it sat in the $100 to $200 range. Skip it if you need a safe you can bolt down, fire protection, or room for a pistol with a tall optic. For a bolt-down keypad vault, see my Hornady RAPiD Safe Keypad Vault review.

TRRKO Auto-Open Charging Safe FAQ
What size handgun fits in the TRRKO Auto-Open Charging Safe?
The seller lists the inside at 10.16 by 8.94 by 2.11 inches and says it holds two full-size pistols with magazines. The 2.11-inch height is shallow, so measure your handgun with any light, optic and magazine before you order.
Does the TRRKO safe run on batteries or plug in?
An AC adapter is in the box, and the wireless charging relies on it. The listing doesn’t describe a battery backup or runtime, so check the manual or ask the seller what happens in a power cut. The two backup keys are the fallback.
Can the TRRKO Auto-Open Charging Safe be mounted?
It’s listed as a tabletop safe with a 3.2-foot steel security cable. No bolt-down holes or wall kit are mentioned, so loop the cable around something solid.
What if the fingerprint reader doesn’t read my finger?
Use the touch keypad or one of the two backup keys. Practice all three ways in when you set it up, and keep the spare key out of the bedroom and away from children.
Does the TRRKO safe have a fire rating or warranty?
No fire rating is listed, so don’t treat it as fire protection. The seller describes a five-year warranty and lifetime tech support; read the exact terms on the Amazon page.
